Lack of ventilation, prevalence of Blight in your locality (i.e. a ghastly summer like this year).

I think this year the odds are that you'll get it in the greenhouse ...

Blight transfers easily between pots and toms & vice versa.

Also it could be caused by any left over diseased plants from last year, if for example the greenhouse wasn't cleaned out properly. Or if your compostheap had some diseased potato or tomato remains in it from last year, and you used that in the greenhous.

If its any consolation I got blight on my tomatoes this year in my greenhouse. The first time ever that has happened to me and I've had this same greenhouse over 30 years (its followed us on each house move!) - and growing toms every year - so I think it has been a very bad year for blight, I am at a loss as to how I got it either. My next door neighbour has tomatoes growing in grow bags outside only about 20 yards away from my greenhouse, and his have been blight free :cnfs:

I had blight on the tomatoes I grew indoor but the ones I grew out didn't suffer from it. Some of my potatoes also suffered this year too!

I watched Gardeners World last friday and it was reported that tomato blight has been nationwide and the worst for years, Joe Swift lost his on his allotment and his next door allotmenteer lost over 100 plants (admittedly all outside) I think you are the exception this year if you manage to miss it.

Potatoe blight and tomatoe blight are the same thing caused by the fungus Phytophthora infestans and will transfer between the two as they are closely related they both belong to the family Solanaceae. Lack of ventilation and cool temperatures are ideal conditions for it to spread.be sure to dispose of any infected material and thoroughly clean out your greenhouse as spores can remain domant until next year.
