Anyone else watched this on ch 4? 8 seriously over weight people given the task of walking 500 miles in 8 weeks to loose weight and change a way of life.I cant remember exactly but i think the lightest person was around 24 stone. 4 out of the 8 finished the walk in Edinbrough,on last nights program and what a journey.I missed the first couple of programs and just caught it by chance whilst flicking over.Talk about endurance. It must have been overwhelmingly painful and some of them wern`t shy in voicing how they felt.At the end of each days walking, the equivelant of half a marathon, they had to pitch up tents to sleep in.It was one of the best things ive seen on TV and my heart went out to them all. Some had been told they had as little as 6 mnths to loose weight or risk heart attacks.Truelly amazing accomplishments.

I avoid those programmes, they're too close too home! But seriously, wish I could walk these days, my knee just won't let me. I did a 40 minute crawl round the shops yesterday and today - am I paying the price. Hooray for TENS machines! God's gift the the arthritically afflicted!

    Hi! Liz

I am just recovering from 2 separate knee replacements and can honestly say that although it is a bit of a slog to get through the recovery if you let things get to the point where the breakdown of the joint causes you to be disabled and wheelchair bound and even hospitalised as I did, in which case the pain requires morphine to get through the trauma of it, then of course recovery is much quicker as you don't carry over the residue of damage pain ( or so I learn since I have had so much trouble recovering myself.)

I have used Wildflower's rosemary ointment with great success as it does help with the surface pain ( fleshy areas) and I can recommend it highly.

Where is Wildflower lately? Anyone know?

I am amazed that these people even managed any of the walk because they didn't even look as if they had been prepared for the walk,by the people running the programme.I do lots of hill and mountain walking and I have to prepare for it well in advance.

I am only a couple of stone overweight, which looks a lot because I am only 5ft 1" tall, but since giving up chocolate three weeks ago have already lost 10lb.When I have talked in the past with my GP about being overweight he said that with a cholestrol level of 4.9 and BP of 138/68 he said not to worry as he knows how much exersice I do.I know people including my skinny husband with high blood pressure and high colestrol problems, which does annoy him slightly.

A lot of rugby players are big people because of their sport, but are classed as fit.Not everyone is meant to look like a lollipop.
It would be nice to see if they do a follow up programme say in a years time to see if losing weight did in deed change their lives

Eleagnus..I am here !! I have just looked and i think i have covered all the pain killers i can find in the herb section..So the only other thing you could do is get a infra red lamp and try that..They are quite cheap at boots..
I think some of these obese people just have mental issues that need to be sorted..I am overweight and cant shift it but i never pig out or eat rubbish so i have given up..anyway i only need to loose about 2 stone so i dont really care..My blood pressure and cholestrol are fine..I like watching programmes like lives of fat people etc..It makes you feel thin.. :D

Don't know about shopping on-line, I spend most of my time on line now!! Forums galore!

As for the TKR, the surgeon recommended I wait till at least next autumn for, though half the knee needs doing, the other half isn't 'half' bad and he's unwilling to do it while it's okay. Does that make sense - well, I know what he means and it makes sense to me!
