    Hi all,

As stated in my welcome thread, we inherited a pair of cooking apple trees when we moved in, which are well established to say the least. One isn't that great a cropper, which I don't mind to be honest, as I'd like to get rid of it to make room for eating apple, pears, and possibly a plum tree. But, my question is regarding pruning. Last years fruit, although very abundant, looked as though the tree could do with a good pruning. However, I'm unsure if I've left it a little too late now, as although we don't use much in the way of cooking apples, I wouldn't like to do anything too detrimental to the good cropper. So my question is, am I still alright to get rid of some of the branches, even if it means a lesser crop this year?

    Thanks all :)

agree with above, you'll do no harm pruning now, but dont ovedo it lots of heavy pruning in one year can stimulate lots of new shoots at the expense of fruit.
