My small pond is really overstocked with gold fish.
But what do you do with them?
    Nobody seems to want them.
I cant even give them away.
    Any ideas?

If I reduce the plants roders the water turns green and fills with blanket weed.
Its a never ending problem, I've been all summer getting the plants growing, there must be at least 70-80 fish in that small area.
They gasp for air so I put an air pump in, then because of the extra oxygen, they spawn. [IMG]

Evening, pete. I remember my Dad having this problem in America, I believe when he was in Phoenix, Arizona. I think he made an arrangement with a "fish/pet shop" where he just gave them the offspring so he was shot of them. His were a foot or more in size, can't remember, it was a while ago, in the 70s/80s. [IMG]

    They wont take em here.
This is the 21st century and disease could be carried, plus they are too big.
WE ONLY WANT SMALL ONES.THE COLOUR IS WRONG, and all sorts of problems
I couldn't even get shot of some waterlilly plants in case they carried some disease or other.
But that probably so the garden centres could go on charging massive amounts of money for very feeble plants.
If anything is overpriced in GC's its waterlillys.

    Hi Pete,

How about approaching a local school? You could encourage them to start a pond themselves with you supplying the fish. Maybe local businesses could donate materials etc, maybe it could be a school project?

How about joining your local freecycle network and advertising them on there. I know someone that did that here and successfully managed to rehome loads of excess fish and plants.
You might also pick up a few things you need/would like in the process! I got a belfast sink and a water butt from there yesterday!!!
