I need to order some top-soil for a raised garden I am about to build ( that's when I can get the old knee working [IMG] ) I will need 1 cubic metre( approx 2 tonnes). What should I look out for when ordering soil so I dont get a load of rubish ? Also what is a target price for good top soil ? An internet site quoted Ã?£97 for 1 cubic metre with delivery ! Which is about Ã?£96 more than I want to pay :D
    TIA

I paid £115 for 2 tons of topsoil/compost mix from a local supplier, including delivery. Good quality stuff, though. Some stuff I bought the previous year via eBay was poor - chunks of broken glass, full of weed seeds.

Hi Smiffy, the other year when Mr Kandy and I needed some top soil for our new bed we had dug out, after we had dropped off all the clay stuff at the tip,we drove to our nearest skip higher place who also sell reclaimed soil.We just weighed the car on their weighbridge before we started filling up our rubble bags and then when we had finished the car was reweighed and then we went to the office and paid the man after he had worked it out.We only found a couple of pieces of small glass in the load and I can't remember how much soil we had but it was more reasonable than buying it in bags form the garden center or one of those company's that deliver it in those elephant bags.
It might be worth your while having a look in your yellow pages for any companys that do this sort iof thing. It is hard work but worked out much cheaper..Good Luck [IMG]

I can get it for £35 per ton bulk baged and deliverd (25 mile radius), try and find a firm local to you rather than a national company like rolawn.

Good soil will be sived and even conistency ie no clay or other ****. If you can find a local firm then visit thier yard and look at what they are delivering.

    Thanks KF and Pro gard
I'll go for the £35 target price - and view the soil before ordering.
Kandyfloss - I think if I put 2 tonnes of soil in my car it would lift the front wheels :D

    cheers
