It used to be a busy port. Lots of the buildings are built from the Dutch Bricks that were used as ballast by the ships. They would unload those before filling up with cargo.

There are lots of Dutch Gabled style buildings around so the design was imported along with the balllast.

I'd guess the bow windows were Victorian but the narrowness of the glazing bars suggests Georgian. Should have looked at the plaque on the front I guess:doh:I think the Bow & the Dutch Gable are an addition to an earlier building, size of the upper window suggests 16th Century, but I would have expected to see a hood molding over it.

Pic 3 shows 2 obviously Georgian stylee buildings on the right, the lack of eaves suggesting it never rained in Georgian times:snork:

Can't put a date to the Dutch Stylee buildings on the left, as i'm not Dutch.

I call in Topsham when down that way and have a browse of the antiques centre on the quayside, sometime having a quick beer in The Lighter Inn opposite. Parking is a bit expensive there so I park for free along the road leading to the rail station (Holman Way).

Oh, i've got ya. Its possible they built straight onto an existing quayside wall. I've seen houses around here that have been built straight off of garden walls, never mind the foundations.

At first glance i thought it was a old stone cottage, but when you look at the side/street view, you can tell it isnt.....but hey, I'd take it:blue thumb::WINK1:
