My swedes are so tough this year it takes over an hour boiling to get anywhere near edible.
I am thinking of composting the lot .
    any ideals on why?

    Hi Belto

I'm convinced that swede are tricky little devils. I used to find they either never swelled up properly or keeled over with chronic mildew. I think the answer is to give them plenty of water to keep them growing quickly and otherwise, leave them to it.

A farmer I know grows them on an exposed hillside in Dorset and just lets Nature take its course. His swedes put mine to shame! I don't bother to grow them any more.
