I planted this 16 months ago ...as a very healthy plant and since then it has gradually gone down hill .... i was blaming the weather but even last summer it was just the same....struggleing to put on growth....i've given it some bonemeal but still no joy...i'm wondering if it's the lime from the garage base that's upsetting it:dunno: any ideas please:blue thumb:

Could be the garage footings that is the problem Loli.. They like a nuetral to alkaline soil.. I think if it was me, I think I would dig it up & either move it to somewhere else or if leaving there remove the soil.. Try & make a barrier between it's roots and the concrete & replace the soil with fresh, or even John Innes #3 or even better make a mix up of peat free compost & #3 & replant.. I would keep an eye on it & don't let it dry out this summer.. Perhaps put some gravel around it to stop evaporation.. Well that would be me anyway..

      Hi Loli

I think its too exposed and with all this cold not good . I would dig up and re-pot give it some TLC and find a more sheltered spot for it to grow.

Isn't it frustrating, though, when you decide on the 'perfect' plant for a situation and it sulks..... Wish I could suggest an evergreen alternative, Loli, but apart from Clematis armandii, which sheds it's horrible dead leaves too readily, can't think of anything apart from perhaps training a lime-loving shrub flat against the wall?
