This has appeared on the trunk of my Trachycarpus
Is it the beginning of a flower? and thence a fruit?

My waggie actually set seed as I thought last year, but although they have now turned black it appears the seed did not develop properly.
In previous years the flowers have just dropped off in the summer.
I can only assume that pollenation did not take place, but if thats the case why did the seed start to form.
Is that a joke whis4ey, fortune, fortunei.
