I have had this palm for a year now and it hasn't grown even an inch. The tips of the leaves are now yellow with the odd black spot on it. Any ideas?

What do the spots look like Lisa?
Are they raised, flat, round or different sizes and shapes?

Where have you kept it Lisa? Garden, window sill, greenhouse etc.

    Can you post a photo?

What compost is it in and (assuming it is a seedling) is it in a deep palm pot?

How often do you water? All the Trachies like to be kept on the dry side.

I have 4 or 5 different types including my pride and joy a T. princeps, which I nearly lost to red spider mite last year. You have looked closely for those little sweeties I take it?

Please give us as much info as you can. Oh and don't forget that palms are all slow growing so if it is bigger than a seedling the fact that it has not grown perceptibly is not TOO much of a worry.

Hi, the spots are flat, a bit ilregular and vary in size. It's planted in semi shade. I tbink I used a mult purpose compost.

I don't see any sign of mites/bugs and the plant is a about 70cm high.

No photos I'm afraid, haven't moved to a digi camera yet!

    Thanks all

    Lisa

I'd say that a trachy of that size would be much better growing in the ground, and then it could take a couple of summers to really get going.
Most, when bought are potbound and have been like that for a while, or dug up and potted for sale in an unrealistically small pot.
I find them almost trouble free once the roots are happy.A lot of the yellow leaf edges and spots stop forming then.
Bear in mind Lisa they do nothing fast, especially until established. [IMG]
