    Hi,
I am planning on buying an established Trachycarpus Fortunei or a Cordyline Australis. But could someone tell me which would do better in a more shaded area. The area in question does get a fair amount of sun but mainly in the morning.Any ideas anyone?

My Trachicarpus likes full sun but has survived cold and wet & wind of North Yorks. My cordyline looks dead, but read a bit further and you will find that others have same problem.

Trachycarpus is definately hardier than cordyline, and I would say its better for shade as well.
Sometimes its winter sun that makes the difference between life and death. It all very well planting in a fairly sunny spot in mid summer but you need to think if that spot gets any sun at all in mid winter.
Sometimes during a winter freeze that thawing out for a couple of hours during the day when its sunny will keep a maginally hardy plant alive I believe.
