How about having a trade area.

Well, that would be in violation of the rule "You will refrain from COMMERCIAL OR TRADE advertising without permission to do so, simple."

A trade area could be started, but either a fee, or a worthwhile discount to GC members would be needed.

I am not worried about a Fee (as such), but if GC members were to get a good discount, something could be arranged.

    PM me if you like.

    Nathan.

Sorry Nathan. You're the boss but if this was a voting matter I would just ask.... ' Why should professionals have an area to themselves?' Maybe gardeners with arthritis or gardeners with heart problems should be allowed an area to discuss things in private? I thought we were all equal in terms of gardening discussion. Should some be more equal than others?

    Sarraceeniac,

Just an area to chat with others directly in the trade. For instance anecdotes about customers and day to day business chat ie who we use for insursance, start up advice etc. Nothing sinister.

How would this make anyone more equal, I dont consider myself anything more than someone who loves gardening and is lucky enough to do it for a living.

Were did I say ANYTHING about it being private?

    Ahh well only a sudgestion.
    Paul

Mm people who don't have pets or aren't interested in recipes don't have anything on offer for them in those sections. The title would have to worded carefully and the instructions so that it did not become a clique where they discussed general gardening things just within that area. But I can see the point that there are things specific to growers, professional gardeners that they would be wary of putting in the general discussion because it woiuld not be relevent to most of us. I think it is not a bad idea. Some of us are in allotment growing and not much else, lawns, roses so why not one for those who make a living, or part of a living out of it. As long as we don't lose them from the rest of the sections.

I can see the point of this if it were not a private area. Could be useful to those in the trade & relevant to others. I often read forums for other trades & gain useful insights & information. (Electricians rabbit on a bit [IMG] ) It could go a bit quiet when everyones busy & exhausted.

Like now, perhaps? I find myself spending very little time on here at the moment, just too busy. I can see some value in this suggestion, but spend so little time on GC at the mo that I'm not so sure I'd contribute much. Might learn a bit, though!

I'd be for it, certainly (and no I'm not a pro or in the trade). Like Paul mentioned something to share experiences and professional learning. Can't see how anyone would suffer by its existence, especially if theres a discount scheme to GC members:)
It could even inspire some to start their own gardening business!
