Last year, I gave my mature Arthur Bell climber a brutal prune as it was only flowering several feet up.
It's growing well and I am trying to train it horizontally but the minute my back is turned it shoots up vertically from the end of the horizontal.
I was wondering if I cut off the growing tips would they shoot along the branches rather than reach for the skies .
If that wouldn't work, what might?

Oh well. I'll just have to be vigilant. Anyway he's been envigorated by the pruning so he'll probably be half way up the garden by Christmas .

IIRC the hormones are concentrated in the tips of shoots, so pruning them off might help ....worth a try!
