Good evening a year ago my nieghbour asked if I wanted this tree which she was going to throw out of course Woo said yes please(I don't like anything disposed of) she had no idea what it was so I planted it between my James Grieve apple tree and my Stella cherry tree. This year I have discovered some small cherry like fruit on it but I am sure it is not a cherry tree, please could anyone help Woo.because he does like to know the name of every tree and plant in his garden(when visitors ask and I have to say "I don't know)Thank you:smile:

:) Evening Woo. It could be the Cherry Plum ...

    Cherry plum - Wikipedia

I have one but it is the P pissardi variety which has beautiful purple leave. Mine is in a large pot and only about 1,5 meters tall but I have lots of fruit this year. :hapydancsmil:

Do you have a picture of the flowers @wiseowl ?
Only I was thinking some kind of lime but think it might be a bit early to have the flowers finished already.

Tilia or Lime trees can be ruled out.
They have bracts with the seed pods.
They do not even flower until July.

                ........................................................................................

Woo..your tree must have had flower. Probably very early in February/March before the leaves...they would be small and you just missed seeing them. Impossible to get fruits without fertile flowers.

I am inclined to agree with Victoria...Prunus cerasifera...cherry plum.
I was worried that your fruit is not round...but link below shows similar shape fruit to your tree.

Leaves look about right...click on 1st image for clear pic of the leaves.
