Last night we went to a friend's housewarming party. In their garden they have a tree that they hoped we could identify for them. Unfortunately we couldn't :o :(.

Please help :). They had cut away all the lower branches as they seemed to be looking very poorly and have hung bird feeders from the upper branches. The upper area looks very healthy and the tree stands about 9ft tall. In that area no branches are visible because the leaves grow too thickly. It looks as though it may possibly be evergreen but I'm not sure as the leaves don't quite look fleshy enough.

At first glance the leaves are reminiscent of choisya but not as large but a closer look shows that they aren't. It has a proper trunk to the tree and is about 6" in diameter. It looks as though it has had some form of small flower from the centre of each leaf cluster.

I managed to grab a couple of photos before it got too dark.

 I am not sure but it looks a little similar to a tree in a garden I walk by.. I will have a look.. The flowers on this tree had a strong pleasant scent you could smell from afar, did/does your friends have a scent..??

    Thanks for your help. :thumb:

Granny, I'm pretty sure it isn't apple. Everything seems wrong for that. :)

    Marley, I'll ask them. :)
