Tree ID please

Hello,

Can you help me identify this tree growing in my sisters garden, i thought it might be an ash? is it a friend of foe?

The pictures were taken on my phone so rather small, sorry.

Looks more like a Walnut to me Katherine

 

+1, because it has a smooth trunk. If it was an ash there'd be clumps of seeds hanging from it, and (normally) a walnut would have imature nuts on it now (isn't now the time for pickling walnuts?), but round here there has been almost complete walnut failure this year with most trees not having a single nut on them.

I'll try to remember to take a pic of a walnut leaf when I go dog walking later on today.

 

Bit difficult to tell from the pics.
But I'd not go for walnut of any kind.
Possibly Ash, but just to add another one, how about Alianthus?

We really need close up pics of buds etc.

 

Doesn't look like Ash to me, Ailanthus is another possibilty along with Walnut, here's a picture comparing Ailanthus and Walnut (Juglans) and another showing an Ash leaf;

I cannot see the tiny bumps on the leaves ( glands)that are typical of Ailianthus altissima.

I would like a better close up pic of a branch.
Are the leaves opposite or alternate?

Zooming in on the photograph on my phone i can not identify any leaf glands, it also seem to become a bit serrated toward the end which looks like the ash leaf example above. I will take a better picture when i get the chance.
