Hi, this is my first post on a gardening website...i'm not sure what my mates would say but I don't care!!:D

Last year my wife and I moved into a new house on one one of these new estates. The back garden is great, as close to south facing possible, and I'll be back for ideas cos we're having it landscaped in a weeks time

The front is a different proposition. Its 7:40pm now and its in full sun now and has been for two hours or so, but for the majority of the day its quite shady. The area I have to plant in is about 2.5m x 2.5m with a path of about 1m width separating it from the front of the house.

I would like to plant something that has some hight and some shape but it can't be allowed to have a spread of more than 4 or 5m and given the proximity of the foundations of the house the root spread will be similary restricted.

I've look everywhere but come up with nothing but a Juniper...has anybody got any ideas for something more architectural or stylish??

    Regards

    Dave

Have I understood correctly that this is for a North-facing wall?

I would have been inclined to use a South facing wall for Judas, to prevent the flowered getting damaged by the cold. Lovely tree though ... the leaves are a pretty shape, not to mention the flowers.

Kind of...its in our front garden which is at the north side of the house. Our house and next doors are only separated by a couple of meters so to all intents and purposes there is a 30ft high and two house wide north facing wall.
