I started off some of these - Paeonia mlokosewitschii (honestly!!) - and the instructions say the seeds have epicotyl dormancy, need to be sown singly in pots (3 or 3.5 ins) be put in fridge 2-3 months, then 2-5 degrees c for 2-3 months, then put back in fridge for 2-3 months - and you mustn't look, but bring out when germination occurs! Do you have to be psychic??? I'm just hoping that it'll work, but the lack of preciseness does make it difficult for the first time! I'm sure if I put them in the garden and forgot them for a couple of years they would just get on with it (in factI've done that with a few seeds - big tough ones, they are!). So....my question is - any advice please????

I Googled Molly The Witch - and came up with this about a different Paeonia - which may or may not be relavent :-

...does anyone have any tips for sowing Paeonia obovata?
I tried it once with no success; now I have five fresh seeds to try again.
    thanks

Sow the seeds on a good quality seed or potting mix (doesn't need to be very fine or sieved), cover with a little more mix then with a good cm of grit. Leave in a cool place and wait - and wait. They'll likely take 2 seasons, root down first season, shoot up the second. If the seed is viable they should germinate OK. Just be patient. Don't let the pot dry right out.

    nixonf23,
also nick the seed slightly to expose the inside, put the nick downwards in the pot.
