I bought this about 2 years back, and only now has it flowered. I thought it might not this year either but the bud has been growing for ages now. The stem itself is only about 10 inches high but the flower is mahoosive!

      They are beautiful blooms!

I'm trying these for the first time this year, what is the difference between a Peony and a tree peony?

I think ( dont quote me on this though!) that a tree peony forms a single " trunk" or stem like a tree and the growth appears of this!?? Rather than the herbaceous ones that die back.

Thanks, I'll have to wait and see what i have then. Gardening is like a murder mystery, only without the murder..........well that is if you don't count the slugs ;-)

I don't recall the variety of mine, but I do remember it cost a quid! Yup, a quid from a sell off!

Herbaceous Peony dies down to the ground each winter, and over time forms a clump. Shrub Peony forms a bush, which does not die down each winter. :)

Intersectional (Itoh) Peonies are a cross between Herbaceous and Tree Peony types (basically just "expensive" :) )
