I'd appreciate some suggestions for small trees to plug some gaps along the (South-West) edge of our garden and act as a bit of a windbreak, while also giving a bit of much-needed shade at the front of the garden. I've just planted a self-seeded Rowan, and there are some big conifers further up the garden, but we need 2 or 3 others to complete the effect. We'd like something that either has flowers/berries or bright autumn colours, but nothing too big, as we don't want to totally block out the views along that side of the house.
Our soil is slightly acidic, and very well drained, except in one patch which gets a bit waterlogged in Winter.

    Thanks!
