    Hello fellow roselovers:luv:

Inspired by the make your own trellis thread, I have knocked up a rose arch from roofing struts and creosoted ( substitute ) it today.

Question is, how long do I let it go off before it will be safe to attach the roses to it-Geoff Hamilton says two days for real creosote, ordinarily I would go with anything the man says but it is the substitute stuff and wondered if there were any no-no`s I should be aware of.

No-odd innit? Not a word-it also didn`t say how long it takes to dry-"fast-drying" is all it said.

It`s the B&Q cheap as chips stuff in one of those big plastic trugs.

Hi Lollipop As far as I am aware Creosote substitute is only Harmful when wet ,In my humble oppinion I would leave it for 48 to 72 hours to dry,I do,nt tend to use it as Its still Contains a complex mixture of HYDROCARBON OILS and added Surface BIOCIDES as does original Creosote ,Hope this is of some help to you:):thumb:I certainly wo,nt go against Geoff (he,s my Hero)b-0:)

The only danger is-I have caught the bug now , the Lord alone knows what I will start making next. LOL.

Do you remember Geoff's hammer? He'd used it so often tapping down slabs etc with the handle that it was worn down to half its size, he was a practical chap :) Sadly missed :(

I never met him, but he was my friend.

Whenever I do anything out there I`m not too sure of I always think what would Geoff do? He`d "have a go!"

Oh I didn't mean I have met him claire, I wish I had!

Its really interesting to look at the tools on some of these gardening programmes on the telly, on Ground Force and similar rubbish they always have brand new wheelbarrows or loads of big power tools on hire. Look back on those old programmes with Geoff Hamilton or Geoffrey Smith and they are obviously using their own loved tools which are a bit worse for wear sometimes. I like Carol Klein for the same reason, she's always got a pocket knife at the ready and dirty fingernails, its a sign they know what they are talking about.
