I thought I might as well start another controversial topic [IMG] [IMG]

Do you consider 'Trick or Treat'?

A really good opportunity to dress up and have a bit of fun [IMG]

An opportunity for some people to demand rewards with menaces from vulnerable people

A silly import from the colonies [IMG]

A conspiracy by the fancy dress and sweet manufacturers to boost their turnover

    Shiney I consider:

"An opportunity for some people to demand rewards with menaces from vulnerable people
A silly import from the colonies
A conspiracy by the fancy dress and sweet manufacturers to boost their turnover"

Husband enjoys answering the door and handing out treats so we have a bag of goodies at the ready.
But I think it is getting much too commercial. All the costumes etc in the stores and parents buying
loads of stuff. When the 'kiddies' knock at the door a plastic carrier bag already half full is shoved in your face with an expectant look for you to fill it further. In the background the parents hover watching.. Most of the children are 5 - 12 ish.
Nah! time it was stopped. Same as fireworks - but that's another subject!!

    Happy Halloween

I havnt anything against it, its fun for the children its only once a year, wish we had pumpkins when i was little, we only had hard turnips to scoop out, so i,m enjoying it now.
The only thing i would worry about is children alone knocking on strange peoples doors, just dont know who answers these days.

    Happy Halloween anyway

I consider it to be begging with menaces.
    I don't open the door.
I particularly didn't enjoy having the paintwork on my car cracked when an egg was thrown at it.

However, I do enjoy the opportunity to dress up and have fun but I limit it to parties. [IMG]

I think it is getting a bit too commercialized like Christmas is.Everyone thinks it is an import from America but from what I have read over the years it is a Pagan custom for those people that have passed over, but I am not sure about it as so much rubbish gets printed these days none of it can be believed.

The other year in our village we had so many families ring on the door bell that it cost us a small fortune in sweets and money to give to them all and then the parents had the cheek to openly boast on our village forum that with the ammount of sweets their little darlings ammassed over the night they didn't need to buy them any sweets for the next six months, and God only knows how much money they raked in that no doubt went into their savings accounts.

There was no Halloween celebrations when I was a youngster only penny for the guy [IMG]

We have no children so don't need to buy pumpkins to put out anyway.

If they come knocking on my door they can have some nice healthy apples (still got loads of them on the trees) and not unhealthy sweets [IMG] :D . I think I'll go out and pick them now.

How do I sign up for 'Grumpy Old Men'? [IMG] [IMG]

Shiney. I found an old bag of clothes pegs that we don't need any more. Never mind penny for the Guy its 'Clothes peg for the spook?'

Kandy, it's another of those old pagan customs that was adapted by the Church. It was interpreted by the early church as the day before All Saints day when the spirits of the dead awake to wait to be transported to heaven by the saints.

Bet the clothes pegs will come in handy to hang on with.

    Hi Nursewhen,
    pleased to "meet" you

Likewise, I don't like people knocking at my door in general, especially in the dark. But I just know I am gonna get some of those kiddies tonight knocking, and I know that I will not want to open, but my little girls will force me to...

I have just got back from Tesco's and it is bedlam down there.Anybody would think it was Christmas  All the mums are running round like headless chickens trying to buy up all the bags of sweeties and the last of the orange buckets and the costumes [IMG] and it must be pension day because all the old people are down there with their zimmer frames wandering around like their minds are back home and then it takes three of them to pack the bags,One on the till watching to make sure they don't get diddled and two to pack the stuff.Anybody would think they have got all day [IMG] :D

Now can someone point me in the direction of the 'Grumpy Middle Aged Womans Thread' ;) :D

By the sound of that Kandy, we're on it.

And Monday is pension day. But it takes us all day to collect it in pairs (1 to ride shotgun), then Tuesday we go to Tesco to spend it (in 3s). [IMG] ;) :D

But today is Wednesday so they must be in practise ready for next week's shopping, and changing the subject for some unknown reason I have the Red Arrows displaying outside of the house and one has just flown over with a blue trail coming out of his bum and I couldn't get the camera turned on quick enough and I am still shaking with the excitment of it.I think I need a lie down now or one of these [IMG]

Shiney sorry to hijack your thread :D :D
