I have a modest clump of the above which I have had for many years...oh they don't multiply quickly! They are just coming into flower and while tidying up around the clump I noticed that there were about 30 seedlings...great joy! I have very carefully lifted the seedlings and have potted them into a pot of pure leaf mould. I hope I have done the right thing. Now I am not sure what to do. Am I best to keep them somewhere in partial shade and remember to water them! regularly, sink the pot on the ground somewhere and let them "get on with it", feed the seedlings with something?. I did have a couple of seedlings around the clump before which I just left but they never came to anything. I know it will be about 5 years before the seedlings grow big enough to flower but would like to try and succeed with these. The thought of 30 odd extra of these lovely plants certainly is an incentive, but have no knowledge how best to proceed. Hope someone can advise please. Thanks.
Great news lots of free seedlings They like a slightly acid soil and a good humous rich compost when growing in a pot so just the leaf mould is not enough but would be ideal to mix in , yes dapled shade is ideal plus a very weak liquid fertiliser weekly would make inprove your chances Probaly the seedlings before have dried out and not produced the little bulblet , I would keep in the green house or cold frame over winter as well , plant out next year Hope this helps Spruce
Silu - I am sure putting them in pots is the right thing to do - as long as you can remember to look after them. I know that nature knows best. But nature can be very wasteful. If you think of all the thousands of seeds and potential seedlings that can arise from one plant, nature has to allow them all to die from natural causes - except for the single one needed to perpetuate the species.
