It was too unmanaged and disorganised yesterday! took me 3 h to get to work.. things have calm down today.. i think most of commuters decided to stay home instead.. I was surprised to see the nice side of london commuters and tube operators today:blue thumb: Everyone was nice and helping each other to get on the tube... Stations such as Victoria and Euston have a flood of people:runforhills:. Not for the faint hearted!:paladin:

To TfL's credit, they made sure that they organised additional capacity on the bus network to get people moving as much as they could. The buses have still been stuffed, but at least the effort was made - its just saddening when I hear of my staff being abused by frustrated commuters, especially as we are only trying to help.

After a reduction in workload I was offered a job in the practice's London Office (over 3 hours train & tube every day) or redundancy. I took redundancy and 6 weeks later got a better paid job within cycling distance.

I hate the place as it reminds me of lengthy travelling times to visit relatives. A colleague opted for that commuting option, but then also lost that job and never got back into the profession. I still hate using the tube in London.

The tube itself is great and a fantastic achievement. It's the envy of many cities and countries.
The vast majority of the workers are hard working. It's the minority of hard core unionists that keep hamstringing London just for the sake of a power play

Many years ago I used to work in the 'square mile' but at that time I was using British Rail which was bad enough. However, my other half lived in north London which meant the use of the Northern line, it's got to be the worst of them all having used most.

I quite like the RMT. There are so many unions out there that don't do much if you have a problem and if you have a problem then they are only to eager to help. The media will always side with the commuter on this and it's a shame. The strike is in the public's interest. Without ticket office staff many visitors wouldn't know who to ask for for help when they are lost how to top up an oyster card etc etc.

I quite disagree. The tube itself is stoneage being constantly upgraded or repaired. Some lines that are considered the most up to date are running on signalling systems that are 20 plus years old and are constantly failing. TFL think they can cut front staff to save money for the massive maintenance costs of running the service. It's never made any money so cutting staff in order to do this is daft instead of cutting the amount of managers they have in each department for example.

Fair enough, although a popular misconception. Is is an old network and as such has certain limitation placed upon it and a requirement for maintenance. That maintenance was neglected for about 30 or so years which is why there is such massive investment now. Nothing anyone could have done about that as it was governments decision.
New methodologies are constantly being introduced which is making the tube more efficient but what people can't seem to understand is that it takes time to embed and see the benefits. People are an impatient bunch, especially on a crowded tube, so berate the tube system.
The rates of failure continue to drop. This is despite having to battle with thieving illegitimate children nicking cabling and signalling equipment and if you look at the vast amount of signalling then the failure rate is actually low. It's just perceived to be high due to the consequences of stopped trains.
TfL have a duty to cut costs and introducing new operating methods does that, it also means people's current jobs are made redundant but they're always offered another position as they have to. I do agree there are too many managers!

It would be better if they paid off all the drivers on £48k a year sat at the front of a fully automatic train, just to put passengers minds at rest
Spend the money saved keeping a skeleton staff in the ticket offices and have millions left towards maintenance
The Trams and Trains in most German towns and cities, are unmanned fully automatic too
only people are happy to get on and off and not have a dummy sat in the drivers cab

The London underground is as close as most people will get to the religious versions of hell.

Its below ground, and full of the damned, stuck in an eternal cycle thinking they are striving for better, but really just repeating the same thing over and over, all in total isolation despite being in a crowd.

I used to have to traverse it when I lived in Hampshire and came home for some weekends. I quickly learned that if you have any compassion for anyone else, you will miss the train. I once saw a man collapse in there on the way down the stairs to the platform. People were just stepping over him to get to where they were going. They didn't even seem to notice him, their legs just automatically doing an extra wide stride to clear him. It was missus and I, not yet fully converted, who went to find help.
