    Hi

I planted around 50 Tulip bulbs (green spring , pink impression , Maureen and black parrot ) all in one area. It's not a huge area, but i've planted tulips here before and they have been fine. The area is not waterlogged either. I planted them to the right depth. We have no rodents that regular visit or much wildlife e.g squirrels, that could dig the bulbs up. The bulbs were of good quality too

So, fast forward to now and hardly any have emerged, the few that have emerged have been small stunted flowers or like the blind tiny bud in pic.

I have no idea how this has happened. I was thinking because i have lots of lilies and Aliums in that space, it's been to crowded and they haven't sprouted? Is this possible? I tend not to make much space, width wise when i plant the bulbs, as long as i plant them at the right depth, so, maybe this is what caused this issue? Do bulbs benefit from the soil being enriched with some organic medium prior to planting?

Any advice would be great, especially preventing the same thing happening next year.

Thanks and happy Easter all :)

My first thoughts are the opposite from being waterlogged. Bulbs in particular tend to require a fairly constant moisture growing area. Yes to enrich the growing area with good humus will help as it will not only help to add nutrients to the soil but also to retain moisture etc. Sadly tulips don't respond to the resuss program. Many bulbs and tubers can be given some help by plunging them into moist peat etc, this sort of plumps them up again.
I wish you all the best.

Thanks Allen. I didn't think about the moisture. It rains alot in Yorkshire, but we did have lots of dry cold spells..maybe that is what caused it It;s very odd.
