I planted daffodils and tulips this week and have read conflicting advice about how close/far apart they need to be. I have planted them both between 10-15cm deep but have left barely any space between them; perhaps some are even touching! Does this mean they are less likely to flower? I am only using them as annuals this time, as the border they are in will be used for something else next year. Therefore I am not too fussed if planting them close together impacts on their long-term survival. I would like them to flower next spring though!

I finished planting mine today in pots, 2 packs of 10 species daffodils in 2 pots, the second pack were huge bulbs, I had to swop them round to get them in and it was a tight fit. I then had a tray of tulips from last year, all sorts of sizes , I am afraid I just tipped them in the pot patted them down, and covered with compost.

Phil the bulb depth is fine at 10-15cm .In a container I usually leave about 3" between Tulip and daff bulbs and about 6" in the flower bed. I use my fingers and hand length as a gauge . I think if they are really close they should be OK for 1 season . When I removed some miniature daff bulbs from pots last month they were really packed tightly together and had flowered very well.

When I plant those types of bulbs, I go at least 2 inches apart, thus I don't have to dig them up and separate them for at least 8 years.
