I am only just beginning with veg but I believe it is meant to be one tomato plant per basket - that is what I am going to do anyway....

    :) Hi guys.
If they are sturdy plants it would be ok to put them out in the daytime, and in at night, but do wait until they are quite sturdy as the wind would damage weak plants.
As for how many in a basket.........You want loads of Toms so 3 or 4 in a 12" basket......4 or 5 in a 14" basket and so on.
Do remember they need lots of water as they easily dry out in the sun and wind..........A good idea to put some water retaining granuals in the compost and they do appreciate regular feeds.
    Good luck.

I was really pleased with them and it thrived despite the bad summer we had last year, ive got this years ready in the hanging basket in the Ghouse, but in the other basket ive planted trailing strawberrie's Mmmmm :) for a change, so looking forward to that...

Mine are so tiny, and i am trying to harden them off, but not having much luck. How big should they be by this time of year?

No rule for how big they should be Caz. Being small is okay.......they have lots of time to grow and produce. Just let them go as they want to and transplant them into the hanging basket a bit before you're going to put them outside. (I have 3 in each 14" basket so I hope that won't hold them back but I think in a basket that large they should be okay.) Always fun to experiment with something new.
