I stay in a new house and the builders are going to put drainage in and returf the lawn. Problem is that it looks like they are preparing to put the new turf on top of the old turf. They have already put the sand down. Is this a problem? Please answer asap the coming back tomorrow to finish.

That does not sound a good idea at all - though in theory it may work as the grass underneath will rot in time - but its not the surface, even covered with sand that new turf should be laid on and goodness only knows what lies underneath that.

They should take the turf off, prepare and level the surface and then turf it. Sounds like they just want a quick job - doing it properly would take some time.

I'm not an expert in lawns, but I would not want turf put down like that cos I could be facing returfing again in a short time. For my two penny worth, they either do it properly, or provide the cash for you to do it after they have finished.

i feel we have half a story... what was original problem, was it a flooded lawn or some incorrect drainage piping from house ?
i think putting turf over turf is odd

    Sorry, late again.
It's not best practice but can be done, saving time & money (who's paying?)
