I set some turnips off a few weeks ago. More germinated than I expected so it ended up overcrowded and so I gave up on the idea of getting the actual turnips, but the leaves are getting quite big now.

I just tried a piece of leaf while I was out having a smoke. It was surprisingly delicious.

I've read that they are nice as a cooked veg, lightly steamed. Are they also ok raw in moderate quantities?

I've always eaten them raw while I'm outside, I'm sure I've read that raw turnip leaves help prevent bags under the eyes somewhere too :thumb:

Just done a little bit of googling and the first article I read (link below) had me completely stunned. It seems turnip leaves are a superfood and we should all be eating it apparently.

      WHFoods: Turnip greens

I'll be growing loads next year. I've always been reluctant to grow the likes of cabbage because they take up too much space for too long. No need now, turnips are the new cabbage as far as I'm concerned. It grows quickly, the leaves are delicious, and they are better for you than cabbage and the more commonly eaten cruciferous veg.
