Hi everyone, I ordered a plum tree from Suttons in January but it got damaged in transit and by the time a new tree was delivered it was late April. The roots were bare & it was in a dormant state, I planted it after soaking the roots but there is no sign of buds, it still looks like it's stuck in winter! What could the issue be?

My second question is regarding my apple trees, I planted two last November, they are quite small at the moment but have developed lots of beautiful blossoms, surely they won't attempt to fruit this year will they? I'd prefer if their energy went into getting taller.

    Any advice welcome.

Give the bark on the plum a bit of a scrape and see if its green underneath, it might just be in shock.

The apples will probably drop any fruit that forms, but there is nothing to stop you taking them off before that.

Hi Pete, thanks for the reply, the plum tree has a healthy looking green bark at the bottom of the tree but about half way up it loses all signs of life, maybe it's coming to life in stages! :skp:

Sounds more like its dying in stages, once brown under the bark its dead and will not come back.

I think you may have a duff one.

Oh, that doesn't sound good. I haven't actually looked under the bark yet, there is just a visable green tinge on the outside of the bark at the bottom of the tree, I'll scrape it to see whats underneath. Thanks.
