    Hi

Please can you tell me what these two flowers/plants are - the white one in the background and the Purple one. Does the purple one benefit from dead heading?

    Thanks

    Hi Will

I think the white is an Astilbe and the other an Aquilega.

Lovely colour combination :luv: The aquilegia will seed everywhere if you leave it. For me that is half it's charm. If you don't want that then dead head.

I would agree with the others on Astilbe and Aquilegia. I don't think either of them will flower again with deadheading.

Isn't it a bit early for Astilbe to be blooming? Mine are only now showing buds. Might they be Filipendula (Meadowsweet)?

Agree with the other being Aquilegia.

Yes, SussexG - you are right. It is probably too early for Astilbe.

Hi and thanks everyone, googles Astilbe and indeed it does look like it. Have seen the same in someone else's garden too.

Filipendula looks very similar but is in flower now. The leaves are also similar and like Astilbe, does well in shade and damp.

Will - I think the white flowered one is now called Aruncus filipendula, as Aruncus has been seperated out of the Filipendula genus. The flowers are very like Astilbe, but Aruncus flowers now and Astilbe won't for a bit.
