I work with my uncle doing property maintenance, and we recently picked these plants up for a customer. Now the customer wants to know if they're edible.

First of all, these are ornamental peppers, right? If they are, does anyone know how hot they would be? We know the store grows food locally and uses minimal pesticides, so eating them should be possible. Unfortunately, we're out of town and can't ask the store directly what kind they are.

    Thanks so much!

Nice looking plants....i was always told that if it says Ornamental on the tag, then its had somthing sprayed on it....and some of them will knock your socks off, heat wise.

Thats not to say that you cant eat them, i have eaten peppers off ornamental plants and washed them really really well, and in some cases, saved the seeds and grew my own the following year.

If you know the place where you got them well, i would ask again, just to be safe.

    Good luck.

The plants look like Medusa and Chilli Chilly hybrid to me......any guesses anyone?

Hopefully someone else will come along and offer more advice.

Thanks, Penny. I went ahead and tried them and they were extremely mild. I've never had a pepper that was so mild, actually--they're way lower than even tabasco sauce. (If I had to compare them, I'd say they're around the range of peperoncinis.)

Judging from the taste, I'm going to say they are indeed Medusa peppers. Someone in another forum suggested that they're Takanotsume. Thank god they weren't, because those seem to be really hot.

Anyway, thanks again for the help.
