Hi all, along with my hundreds of wonderful tadpoles living a life of luxury in my pond, I seem to have some black wiggly unidentified objects. They are the size of my tadpoles tail. A bit like tiny leeches At first I thought they were tails, but the wiggle on their own. I have never had any fish in the pond it is a year old wildlife only pond. Any ideasplease

    Hi,

Thats the interest of a wildlife pond, seeing what creatures develop in there.

Could be small fish /eggs brought in by birds, though probably some form of larve from a flying insect like a dragonfly...?

Can you get a picture ?

If you web search "pond creatures identification chart uk" you will find loads of pictures of such creepy crawlies.

The pond is not clear and is in shade, a these creatures are very small and jet black, pics impossible, think tadpole tail swimming by itself, best description. I am favouring a leech?

Leech seem likely although I have never noticed any. Our Newts probably eat them as they do the tadpoles apart from some kept in a Newt free nursery.

If you put Frogs or Fish in the pond they will think they are lunch.

I get tiny leeches in my pond, often have a couple stuck to my arm if I've been messing about with the pump or filter.
I think they are too small to puncture the skin though.
