Thanks to Gardeners Corner I've spent the weekend getting rid of my lleylandi and aerating my boggy lawn (I've the scrathces and blisters to prove it but loved every minute!!) and now need help on how to cover my ugly red stained modern fences (I've moved from a beautiful walled garden which memories still make me weep!). I don't want anything invasive, have to keep my new neigbours happy, but such a tiny garden I can't have anything too big. I need something that is self supporting(ish), won't go mad, and not too bushy. I know I'm asking for a lot!! Any suggestions?

depends on how big your gerden is, I have replaced mine with yew and willing to wait - although it is not as slow as you think.

alternatives - lonicera, thujua (I have a ver small compact slow growing variety - if pushed will look up name)

Loads more if necisary - but hope this is OK for starters

Suggest a variegated gold/green ivy - and another would be the climbing hydranga. Both are self supporting, and would add colour. Then there's the dogwoods.

Thank you, I'm going for the honeysuckle - love ivy but I know it gets a bit out of hand over the years. I've never grown honeysuckle, and fancy a go at that I think. Thanks again for your help!
