As all the other parties are a bunch of idiots to put it mildly, they might be just what this country needs
How anyone could support withdrawal from the EU is beyond me. Our country is a rich tapestry of different nationalities and beliefs and I hope it stays that way.
They were already a bit insane while they were an actual political party. Now they are just the conservative's little brother.
It is of course everyone's democratic right to vote for any legally recognised party they like (if there is a candidate in their ward). I was tempted to vote UKIP myself at the last local and European elections, but I had a few questions about their policies, so I emailed them. I got no reply. Like I said, strangely they never even replied. I suspect that's because they hope to win votes based on headlines alone, and they don't expect to win the support of people who actually think about what they're being told.
I Have had many conversations with Mark Reckless ex Conservative and now my UKIP candidate ,they probably didn't reply because they couldn't read your email try putting pen to paper an answer is guaranteed ,only joking Cluey i just resist it
Political parties in this country have got themselves into a complete mess, mainly because of inaction, they promise the earth and do absolutely nothing once in power. UKIP, have arisen as a result of this. I dont see UKIP as a viable government as they are at the moment, and I doubt very much if they would be able, or try to do all they say if they were to gain power, which is unlikely. The torys say a vote for UKIP is going to let labour in, I think that is true up to a point, which points out what a corrupt system we have in our elections. Vote for the loser and you waste your vote. One thing we could learn from Europe is propotional reprisentation. Apart from that Europe can take a running jump as far as I'm concerned, it was only said last week that Europe is likely to hold back our economic recovery. A mill stone around our necks, in more ways than one.
I phoned them up years ago to ask what polices they had on fishing. They said they didn't have any, their only policy was to get Britain out of Europe. I would have stayed on the line to tell them you can't run for government without having policies for stuff, but it was my phone bill. Pretty sure it was Nigel Farrage I spoke to.
+ Some people don't like being dictated to by Westminster. Doesn't that apply to far too many voters, including those who'll vote for a Party based upon a leader's conference speech, rather than their party's policies. That got rejected here mainly because the electorate couldn't forgive Nick Clegg for lying/selling out on Lib Dem policies (principally tuition fees).
So far as I can tell, UKIP are much like the LibDems were back in the days. Just enough votes to make them a nuisance but never enough to make them a serious threat.
More like the tories batty old uncle!! No, but as Scrungee points out they don't like being dictated to by Westminster either. I'm no fan of the far reaching powers that Europe has, but I believe that we would be sunk if we left now. And I am a big fan of free movement. We all have the answers until we stop and actually think things through - it's never as easy as it seems. I would be far happier with less pie in the sky promises and a clearer definition of what they stand for, who they stand for and an idea of what their general vision for the future is. Certain issues such as the NHS are worthy of clear promises however.
