I have a problem with unbranched burr reed in one of my ponds. Does anyone else suffer from this and does anyone have any solutions as to how to get rid of it ? I understand that it could be controlled with Dichlobenil , Terbutryn or Glyphosphite , but unless one is licenced they are not available to the general public. Is anyone aware of any "over the counter" products that might work to rid me of this scourge ?

Hi twillfman,Sparganium (bur reed ) is a very invasive marginal plant, as you have found out. The problem with using weedkillers on pond plants, is the affect they have on fish or other pondlife. I would be inclined to buy a weed pencil or touchweeder (if they are still available) and use that. If they are not available I would get some Glyphosate (Roundup) and paint that on the leaves, and hope for the best.

Glyphosphite... You mean Glyphosate ie roundup (commonly available). Use the method dave sudgests or perhaps try a sprayer but be vary wary if you have fish.

Diclorobenil is easily available trade but would be expensive for a small area.
