Following a three year wait we now have a 7.5 rod plot but it is so overgrown its gonna take a year or so to clear it and cultivate it. Why do these allotment associations leave them and rent them in such a state. I was a rep in Lowestoft and any rough plots were kept down by myself and my atrimmer until they were taken over.

I know what you mean I’m in the same situation with my plot which I managed to get a couple of mths ago. It was a used plot with established beds but the occupier left taking most of the plants and as she had paid for the full year the plot was just left and is now an overgrown mess!

What annoys me is that people rent three or four plots, but do a bit in each but never actually get anything cleared and planted.

Then there are those who have a plot and potter, never really clearing it or growing much but just enjoy "having an allotment."

AND my real bane is people have a ten rod plot but cover 3 quarters in black plastic and has one raised bed!

    BUT

I love the ones who share excess plants, have a great plot and are the first to offer help in any way they can, often running up to you with a cup of tea for you.
and today one even came to strim my plot for me!
Plot holders and their habits could make a good study.

I so agree, I love allotments - i work allotments (part of my job) and i play allotments too - so good for the soul - and yes theres a lot of good people who will help out - give a cuppa or a few plants. when i was a newbie i was offered so many plants and i felt i had nothing to offer back - i do now! this year i have given the 'youngsters' (late teens early twenties) use of my tools cos they dont have any - yet

    enjoy your plot!
