I have just moved to a new house, and have a lovely pond. I must have mis-heard the vendors, as I could have sworn they said that there were no fish in the pond... but whilst no expert I am pretty sure the three gold things moving about are probably fish...

Anyway - I have never kept fish. I threw a plastic ball in the pond a-la Titchmarsh.. but do I feed them in winter, or leave them? Is there anything else I need to be doing?

Hi jesaya, and welcome, no don`t feed them during the winter. You only need the ball in there in case the water freezes. Enjoy the water feature and fish. [IMG]

    Welcome, jesaya.

No, don't feed the fish in the winter. If the pond is big enough, then you won't have to feed them in the summer either.

You'll probably have to clear the winter mess out of the pond come spring, then go from there.

Many thanks... I have pulled some leaves out. And a heron keeps flying past so it may not be a problem for long :(

How big is the pond? Can you put a net or something over it?

The pond is only about 4-5' long and 3' wide (one of those pre-formed shaped things). I have some netting (one of the many things my kind seller left for me) so I will have a go at protecting the fish.
