This appeared amongst the Delphiniums and Lilies.
Across the leaves from tip to tip is nearly 2'.
It has silvery leaves that are hairy, and seems to be suggesting it will send up a spike.
it has been moved to a place that is out of the way until identified.

    Any ideas what it is?

I thought about Verbascum but not having any and, not knowing anyone else with one, I thought I would ask.

I assume the birds have left a present from somewhere.

      I agree with Verbascum.

I purposely collected some seed from a few wild plants and grew a few on this summer.
One has grown pretty big, hoping for a tall spike next year.

That particular type of mullein (silvery, velvety leaves and yellow flower spike) can reach quite scary, Triffid-like proportions, not like the cultivated verbascums found at your local GC. Great if you want an enormous focal point, otherwise could be dominating in a border.

I have a lot of cultivated ones and a few wild ones. One of the wild ones got to 10ft tall before I chopped it down last week. :rolleyespink:

It's great when you find a random plant starting out in your garden...especially one like that!
