Can anyone recognise this apple tree? My sister In law has it in her garden and doesn't know if it's edible.

    The apples are purple!

All apples are edible. However, whether or not they taste good is a different thing!

Identifying apples is a job for an expert, who need to have the friut in their hand to see it, notice the colour of the skin and flesh, smell it etc. Also what the leaves look like, colour, size etc.

Brogdale horticultural Trust will do this. They have a "library" of real apples that they will compare your sister in laws apple to for an accurate id. See....

    Thanks for your help guys!

I was posting from my phone, as I was at my sister in laws for the weekend. I recommended she twist one off that looks very ripe, and cut a bit off to taste it. If it tastes good - go for it! If it doesn't cook it!
