I used to always get my dad to drive me to places. Now I'm the dad (although only to young kids still), and I'm the unpaid taxi driver, which normally I don't mind, except that my current motor (dear old Gothilda) like a drink, and currently she has major problems with her plumbing (wife noticed a hissing sound when I arrived home from work, so I popped the bonnet, and saw the old girl spraying coolant all over the engine bay).

My stepson would ask me instead of his mum, because I gave him a nicer reply than his mum would. Not much nicer though :snork:
        'I' was the soft touch!
I would rather drive him about and pick him up, than see him on the streets at night though. Especially since they turned off most of the street lighting here......to save money.

It's either that or pay higher council tax.

Also, my ex would pretend to be asleep at 9:45pm, so that 'I' had to collect him from town. Or, was that the other way around  :snork:

I think I would rather pay higher tax than see some of these streets in darkness @"M"
If someone high up, had their daughter attacked, I suspect the lights would soon be back on.
I understand the idea, but some of the streets around here are dangerous even to drivers, hence the need for them when first installed. There is one road in particular, used by many pedestrians, which is absolutely pitch!
I bet crime has gone up too, and when I tried to get someones number plate in my street, I couldn't because the lights were out. I couldn't even make out the car type, or colour
The safety of our loved ones, is more important than a few extra quid. IMO. :)

When I was a teenager (a long time ago) my father pre-empted the situation by saying "If you ever need a lift, just ask. :blue thumb:" . He continued by saying "The answer's 'No'!" :heehee:

He only, once, made an exception when I phoned him late at night and said that my girlfriend and I had missed the last bus home from the West End. :) He came and picked us up and drove back to my girlfriend's house. He then told me to get out as well and that I'll have to walk the 3 miles home - in the rain!

Never missed the bus again! :heehee:

That must be a new thing then. When I was a youngster it was more like 20 miles.

Aye, as the only driver in the house (and one of only two or three in the entire family) I invariably end up attending a steering wheel on a regular basis.

The only lifts our daughter gets now she's at uni is to and from halls, and we've found it cheaper to pay her air fare back home for Xmas and Easter as, booked in advance, it's less than half the cost of fuel & tolls and saves me getting knackered, lost, stuck in traffic jams, etc. Only doing the return trips for those 2 holidays.
