I am trying hard to get to grips with my lawn problems. They have been apparent for a while, but due to so many other commitments in doing the house up, the lawn has had to take a back seat- until now!

Anyway, what I have noticed, is that whilst I have been over my workshop building our kitchen, I have had to pop out now and again to spend a pennny! To my amazement, this region of the garden which is also grass and has been neglected, is absolutely gorgeous with good dense and beautiful rich green grass!!:hehe:

I dont htink it is a coincidence, but it led me to look at urine/urea as a plant food. There is masses on the internet covering this very issue.

Anyway, this eventually lead me to look at grass cuttings as a lawn feed. My question is, would it help to speed up the process if I soaked lawn cuttings in a bin? Would this then be a quicker method of getting nitrates into the soil and existing grass?? I know that a similar approach is used so I am told by placing cut nettles in a bin with a drop of water??

I am loathed to pay the ammounts for big branded lawn feeds, as our lawn is quite big.

I would be grateful for any advice on this and alternative/home made lawn feeds.

    Thank you

If you have space in the garden you could try setting aside a small area for growing comfrey and making fertiliser/feed from that. You could also use it as a compost accelerator by adding the leaves to your bin of lawn cuttings.
