    Hi,

I am growing plants, and have had recently a problem with fungus and bacteria on my plants. Therefore I decided to give them some amount of silica. There is a plant which produces a good amount of silica, it is the "Equisetum arvense" (Field Horsetail or Common Horsetail).

I am in need of its seeds or spores, can anyone assist me with it? In exchange (here it comes!) I am offering seeds of various tropical, exotical plants, or seeds of some chili varieties.

    Who can assist?

Don't do it Sven - it will take over and you'll never get rid of it.

They're right you know, it had plans of world domination till flowering plants evolved, they formed the coal measures & grew 30/50 feet high.

You'd hate us if we gave you a bit of root.

Silica is the most common mineral in the earths crust, Si 04 the silica tetrahedron.

Look on the beach, if your pebble can't be scratched with a steel blade then its probably silica. Put some goggles on & pulverise it with a lump hammer. Carefull though, it breaks into very sharp bits.

Once planted you can't get rid of it and it spreads everywhere. It will grow up through paths and tarmac and live roots have been found 70 ft down in a coal mine with the plant growing on the surface. It has been around since prehistoric times.

On the plus side - it's good for cleaning saucepans :hehe:
