Google maps has been around for a while, and for some Google's "Street View" is not new either. But now Cumbria is available in "Street View", thats Urban and Rural so folks across the pond can travel virtually around this beautiful county if they wish or members in the UK can travel around virtually before visiting on a holiday or short break and actually see where they want to go, or discover hidden gems.

To use "street view", first go to http://maps.google.co.uk/ and zoom in on your area of choice as far as you can. If your screen goes black its loading the street view automatically, give it a few seconds and photo's will appear and your there. Alternatively grab the little "Yellow Man" icon from the zoom tool and drag that onto the map and you'll go into Street view.

Here's a viewpoint near Great Langdale Here Click the link and wait, screen goes black then goes to the photos.

    Have fun exploring with this.

    Steve...:)

PS. Caught by Google!! Yes, I was photographed by google load this link then double click on the greenhouse twice, there I am working away...Caught in the Greenhouse

I was able to pinpoint the day when they came past us to take their dastardly images. It must have been a Thursday as all the bins were out for collection...

By an amazing process of elimination, it was also during the summer, but early summer as the lavender hadn't bloomed yet. It must have been about midday as both our motorbikes were gone so we were both at work.

If you google Hop Oast (outside Horsham) they even managed to capture a road accident. No blood or bodies but a good shot of all the cops standing around trying to look busy and the lorry on it's side. The google van was in the queue of traffic having to filter slowly past the accident...

I think Street view is brilliant apart from the fact now all the world knows we have a caravan parked on our drive at times:(

Visited my friends homes last night, although I already know what the front of their houses look like:DAnd have found me and Mr Kandy drivng along a road in Minehead while we were on holiday down there the other Christmas:hehe:

Yes I can pin point the day the camera van went past our house, there is our old tumble drier on the drive waiting to be taken to the dump, it looks like steptoes yard :lollol:

There are some quite funny things accidentally or otherwise captured, The Stig was spotted at Loch Ness and has now been pixellated out http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/19/loch_ness_stig/ and this bare chested shetland island welcome is hilarious:

Brilliant technology but I also have some reservations about the 'Big Brother' situation :skp:. I don't like the idea of them watching me :( but it's OK for them to watch you lot. :hehe:

I just had a look at my place and the picture was taken in the first week of May last year. Funnily enough, when I told it to go out of that picture and into the sattelite picture it was able to go back five years instantly! So they can do time travel as well. :lollol:

I'd be more concerned about the plethora of CCTV we have everywhere than Google Streetview. The latter only captures the images once...CCTV keeps on watching and watching...
