I order a lot of second-hand books off the internet and they always arrive in padded envelopes - the sort that had bubble-wrap inside. I now have a drawerfuls of them, way more than I could ever use for sending parcels, but I hate to throw them away. Has anyone found uses for them (other than for postage, obviously!) or places in their locality that might be grateful for a stack of once-used jiffy bags?

:) Hello sedum and welcome to GC.

I must admit this is an interesting question but why is it the first question you post on a gardening forum ??????? .... perhaps you could post seeds or plants in them?

PS Have noticed you put this in composting but ....

freecycle them - people that sell on ebay may be interested. Or join 'readitswap' and swap books instead of buying then for everyone you get you will use one as well. :lollol:

    Or car boot them.

I use a lot for selling stuff on ebay and collect used ones from colleagues, ask around there may be some secret ebayers that you didn't know.

    This!

I am always collecting them from my work as well. Saves me a small fortune (even if you can get a pack of them from 99p stores, it adds up if you sell a lot on eBay).

My Dad had all sorts of uses for these envelopes, particularly in his greenhouse. In summer he'd pop a plant into a large envelope, give it a good water and go away for a couple of days without having to worry about watering it. In winter, he'd use them as 'insulation' for individual plants.
