I bought some geranium bare roots with the intention of planting under one of my plum trees. I also need to put chicken manure around said tree and was just about to get stuck in when I realised, that geraniums may not like manure. Is it a yay or a nay? I don't want to spend time planting them today only to find out later on that they need to be lifted and relocated.

I can't see why manure should be a problem.

Hardy geraniums won't really care much either way. My whole garden (including the geraniums) gets a sprinkle of chicken poo pellets now and then, when I think about it.

By the way, you only need a sprinkling of the chicken poo pellets not a thick layer - they're dried/concentrated.

@JennyJB I only ever use a sprinkling of chicken manure pellets on the plum/green gage trees in the spring. In the past I have used farmyard manure on the Rosa Rugosa but that really doesn't need any more encouragement. It's bonkers.

Because you said you thought the geraniums might not like it, I wondered whether you were adding it in bulk like rotted farmyard manure (which might possibly rot the crowns if they were buried in it). No problem at all with a sprinkling of pellets, in fact they might flower better for it.
