I can see Masquerade and I can see Harlequin. Are there any others. Any experience? How to make them into lovely shrubs?

Like most variegated plants they are slower growing than the green leaved ones. I grew Harlequin for a while but decided it didn't make much impact.......:thud:

I have Masquerade and it is happily growing a good shape without much help from me. I do remove any stems that revert to full green foliage and dead head to keep the flowers coming. I have only once cut it back hard to renew it. It's nowhere near as fast growing as green leaved buddleia but I find that's true of most variegated shrubs.

There are many more in addition:
'White Harlequin' - white flowers, likely to revert.
'Butterfly Gold' - a recent introduction. Blue-violet flowers.
'Santana' - yellow margins, very sturdy. Maroon flowers.
'Sir John' - a slight variation on 'Santana'.
'Variegata/Florence' - grows rather rangy. Violet flowers.
'Burncross' - from Blooms, very weak. Violet flowers.
'Magda's Gold Knight' - 'Black Knight' with yellow-margined leaves.
'Strawberry Lemonade' - a sport of 'Pink Delight', but only available in the US.
Golden foliage includes 'Leela Kapila', 'Moonshine' and 'Royal Gold'.
Also there is a Buddleja X weyeriana with yellow splotched foliage, very prone to reversion. And a variegated Buddleja crispa 'Stone House Cottage'.

Some of these are fully robust, but some benefit from less direct sunlight as the leaves can scorch. They can be pruned in the normal way. 'Harlequin' and 'Masquerade' are both very prone to reversion and you must watch out for all green shoots, removing them back to their growing point. 'Burncross' and 'Florence' produce "ghost" all-white shoot that are, in effect, parasites and these should be removed.

      @The Buddleja Garden

Buddleja crispa 'Stone House Cottage' looks like a lovely plant -- shame it's unobtainable!

I'm intrigued by Magda's Gold Knight. Is it as vigorous as Black Knight?

Santana sounds like a good punt ("very sturdy")

I'm not keen on the variegated ones, but the Gold Knight one is quite nice @Howard Stone . I can see why you'd like the Stone Cottage one [ ;) ] and I had a look to see if it was available. The RHS gave Barnsdale [Geoof Hamilton's place- run by his son] as a supplier, so might be worth looking there.
      B. d. Black Knight is the one I have here - I love the dark flowers. Santana looks good too. I don't like pale colours, so the only other Buddleia I'd grow are the white ones [or the gold globosas] but the flowers are so manky when they go over, that you have to keep on top of the deadheading. That can be tricky once they get bigger!

I got a globosa in a plant swap and was pleased with myself but, whilst it grew vogorously, the flowers were small and underwhelming and didn't last long before turning brown. Tried pruning it to encourage better flowers but no go so it has been dug out and binned.
