    2012 Olympic Tomato Challenge

The World Record Tomato weighed a staggering 7lbs+

Their is NO way I can beat that but I thought it would be fun to try?

The Variety is "Giant Delicious" and apparently you can get the seed in the UK.

I'm gonna try and source some of this seed, Victoriana Nursery and Nicky's Nursery are said to stock it. If successful, would anybody be interested in joining me in this fun challenge?

'Giant Delicious' taking the record appears to have been a one off fluke:

Giant Tomato - Growing Tomatoes Forum - GardenWeb

This year I'm growing Phil's Fantastic (from saved seed), and P&P's 'Monster' from new seed.

I'm up for a some big tomato fun, but not confined to one variety, but hope to have plenty (although they have very few seeds per fruit) of saved seeds from the above 2 varieties.

Any ideas what we could grow for a friendly competition next year?

Ideally, it should be something we can all grow, not limiting it to only those with a polytunnel of greenhouse.

Preferably something a bit out of the ordinary.

May not be "out of the ordinary", but can be done as largest diameter flower head as well as tallest.

There's already been this suggestion (which daitheplant & I expressed an interest in:

Or 'longest runner bean' or biggest onion (or even biggest elephant garlic) perhaps?

None of those should take up as much space as pumpkins, marrows, etc.

P.S. Better not mention Peter Peppers I suppose?

Like the idea of the whopping great Tomato too.

We'll leave this to run for a while, then maybe take a vote or something.
