I am currently selecting my seeds for my veggie beds for next year and, as my four year old daughter seems to be quite interested in the concept of growing things you can eat from "teeny tiny seeds", I was looking for ideas for her own little veg bed. Suttons catalogue have "seed tapes" for several types of veg. These are paper tapes with seeds attached at the correct spacing, so avoiding the need to sow accurately, or thin out, which I don't think she could manage yet. Does anyone out there in GC land have any experience of these or similar, or are they new to the market ?

Hi, I bought a strip of winter kale some years ago. The seeds came up very well, easy and satisfying to do. I expect you've thought of sunflowers, peas, and beans, all large enough for a little one to handle.

    Hi Liz
Thanks for the reply. She grown sunflowers for the last two years, and this year she added runner beans and french beans. She likes carrots and beetroot so I thought I'd try these next year, along with the ubiquitous tattie, beans and peas. She is just way too impatient and doesn't want to wait - she wants to sow them all now ! Hasn't quite grasped the concept of seasons and their relationship to growth yet !
    Cheers

Hi SR, You could add broad beans and they are very hardy with big flowers the bees visit, Just a thought.

If you have a greenhouse or just a cold frame, she could sow mixed salad leaves now and be eating them in a month's time!
