Thought I would share my latest piece for Uncancelled here; its environmental theme is slightly more related to the overall nature of the sight than some of the more social stuff I've been commenting on in the off-topic forums. Exploration, Exploitation – Extinction? - uncancelled

I get where its coming from.
I just wonder if human life will survive long enough to actually move out of this world and interfere with others.

Before armageddon is complete perhaps they will have launched a big red space ship with a friendly pilot, a hologram co pilot, a cat, and a robot servant..
No, that's just a crazy concept.
I've been watching too much tv during lockdown.

Naaah, it's not, I'm sure Liverpool did it many years ago and it's just faded into a myth and legend........the Truth is out there already.:dunno::heehee:

I did think about Holly, (the original cockney Norman Lovett was my favourite)
But both work well and the series just kept getting better and better as the seasons went by.

I remain to be convinced about microbes in the Venusian atmosphere, phosphine (PH3) is a highly reactive molecule and difficult for microbes to make even on earth. It is also highly toxic to most life forms interfering with oxygen metabolism. It also requires a source of phosphate and I'm not sure that volatile phosphates have been detected on Venus.
I did wonder though if it's genetic material would be blue in colour (Venus in Blue Genes).
As for life elsewhere in the Universe almost certainly in some form another.

Well, the Scientists are only speculating that it's a possibility but there are other theories that are just as possible.:dunno:

Being a complete numpty regarding real science, I always wonder why scientists think that any other forms of life would need certain conditions ?

The conditions mostly seem to be based on forms of life we know of............. but aren't we looking for forms of life we don't know of?

Indeed. And to me, those other theories are just as interesting in their own way.

Well, as an amateur Astronomer the Universe dimensions is, at least to me, beyond comprehension. But all things are possible in just our Solar system but in the zillions of solar systems out there even imagination is not enough.

Well, one driving scientific belief is where there is water you could find Life, but there are organisms on Earth that can still live in the vacuum of bare outer Space, pete. So, we're looking for any kind of entity that you can define as Life rather than, say, Earth like forms.:dunno:

But what I said was, are they?????
As they always seem to make statements to the effect that there could be life as certain elements are there, ones based on how life is on earth.

There have been a number of speculations as to different forms of life apart from our carbon based types.

I'm sure Doctor Who would be able to tell us of some.

There are some so called humans that make you wonder at times! :heehee:

Well, that's only one path where Life is carbon based, pete, but there are other thoughts that in the 118 elements of the periodic table that exist throughout our Solar system and, so far, discovered in others one or more of those elements could be a catalyst to form some sort of Life..........but not as we know, Jim. We know so little about what's out there so all we can do at the moment is theorise and guess........but that probably isn't going to be enough.:dunno:
